The Divine Name of God

I have spent literally hundreds of hours the past 8 years researching God’s Divine Name.

It started with my desire to KNOW Him better. After all, I reasoned, how can we really know God if we do not know His Name? And if we pray, “Hallowed be Your Name,” exactly what name are we consecrating as holy to us?

I was saddened, then angry when I learned that God’s Name, Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey, was REMOVED 6, 827 times from our English Bible in the Old Testament alone. It was replaced with LORD (all caps-see your KJV).

Exodus 3:15 TS2009  And Elohim said further to Mosheh, “Thus you are to say to the children of Yisra’ěl, ‘יהוה Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Aḇraham, the Elohim of Yitsḥaq, and the Elohim of Ya‛aqoḇ, has sent me to you. This is My Name forever, and this is My remembrance to all generations.’ (Note: “Elohim” translates as “God/god/ruler/king- here it means  God)

While we cannot know with 100% certainty how God pronounced His Name to Moses in Exodus 3:15, after 100s of hours of research I have reached the following conclusions:

1.        There are MANY idiots on the internet propagating FALSE information regarding the Name.

Some because they are monetarily invested in a particular opinion/pronunciation, but whatever the reason, their information is FALSE and I can prove it.

2.         I am 95% sure God’s Name is NOT Yahweh.  Yes, I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure I’m right on this. I have many reasons why, but the 2 most significant are these:

a. There are MANY sources that report “Yahweh” was the pronunciation of an ancient pagan god which found its way into the Samaritan culture, and eventually into English.

b. There is NONE, not even ONE example of the vowel pointing added by Masoretic scribes which make the pronunciation “Yahweh.” These vowel pointing symbols go all the way back to 1st century AD, within 100 years of the life of Yeshua/ Jesus.

3.        There are literally thousands of examples, in BOTH Hebrew New and Old Testament manuscripts (28 copies of the Hebrew gospel of Matthew alone) which include the pointing for “Yeh – ho – VAH”  (accent on the last syllable)

a.        MANY of these examples were written by Messianic scribes (believers in Yeshua Messiah) who had NO desire or law to obscure or conceal God’s Name.

b.       Some detractors claim that scribes inserted the vowels of “Adonai” on the Tetragrammaton and that is why YehoVAH appears so many times. The problem with that argument is that the vowels of YehoVAH are most definitely NOT the vowels of Adonai !!

4.        After years of no commitment to any pronunciation, Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary has concluded it is YehoVAH.

H3068

יְהֹוָה

yehôvâh

yeh-ho-vaw'

From H1961; (the) self Existent or eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God: - Jehovah, the Lord. Compare H3050, H3069.

Total KJV occurrences: 6521

5.        Jesus’ given Hebrew name is Yeshua, meaning  “salvation / he saves).  It is a shortened form of the longer name we call Joshua, which is Yehoshua.  There is almost NO DEBATE that these are the correct pronunciations.  Yehoshua is a compound of two Hebrew words, YehoVAH and yo-SHEE-uh” and means “YehoVAH saves.”

6.        I’m “hooked on Hebrew phonics” .  A yod-hey combination is ONLY pronounced “Yah” when it is the only syllable or the emphasized syllable. Yod Hey is pronounced YAH as the shortened name of God, but it is NOT “short for Yahweh”.  When Yod- hey- vav is at the end of a person’s name, it is pronounced YAH-oo”  as in Benjamin NetanYAHu, or El-i-YAH-u (Elijah).  When Yod -hey-vav is at the beginning of a name, it is pronounced “Yeh-o” with the emphasis on the next following syllable – thus, “Yeh – oh – SHOO – uh”.

7.        While languages, including Hebrew, change over time, Hebrew names have not really changed. All these phonetics point to a pronunciation of “yeh – ho – VAH” for the hallowed Name of our God Most High.

8.        The ONLY pronunciation which make the Divine Name a compound of the explanation of the Name given in Exodus 3:14 which is  “I am” is the combination of

HayAH                               HOVeh                               Yihyeh

He who was                     He Who is                         He Who will be

This is the God Most High referred to Revelation 1:4

Revelation 1:4 NAS95  John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne,

There are my top 8 reasons why I believe God’s Name is YeHoVAH.

Praise His Holy Name!
