Happy New Year! After sunset this evening, 4/3/2022, we entered into the FIRST month on God's calendar of time, the month of the Aviv barley.
A lot of Christians are not aware that God's calendar was changed during the days of the Roman Empire from a calendar based on lunar months and solar year (with agricultural signs) to a purely solar calendar. September (sept- = 7) used to be the 7th month, not the 9th. October (oct- = used to be the 8th month. November (nov- = 9) used to be the 9th month, and December (dec- = 10) used to be the 10th month. Thus, the year ended sometime late February to late March.
This year, when the last new moon was sighted, the barley in Jerusalem, Israel, was not "aviv" (that is, ripe enough to be harvested in 2 weeks). So an extra month, Adar Bet (Adar#2), or a leap month was added. In addition, the new moon was not sighted as expected on Saturday evening. This forced a 30th day into Adar Bet and means the New Year, Aviv 1, starts tonight.
This means Passover will now be moved back one day, now beginning Sunday evening, April 17. Monday, April 18, at sunset, is now a HIGH (annual) Sabbath day as it is Day 1 of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
As human plans are necessarily adjusted, we are reminded how YeHoVAH our God is in control and how we depend on His provision. And after all, that is part of the purpose of His calendar: that we might look to Him for instruction and provision. See Leviticus 23 for an intro to God's Holy Days and His calendar.
