What Happens at the Time of Immersion into Yeshua/Jesus?

Baptism is many things to many people. I have heard it described as essential to salvation, NOT essential to salvation, an outward sign of an inward grace, a method of joining the church, blah, blah, blah.
So what is baptism, really? The Greek word baptisma, the noun from which we get the English transliteration "baptism," was used by the common folks to describe ships that sank. It literally means immersion. The Greek verb baptizo literally means "to dip, to immerse."
Can a ship be sunk by sprinkling water on it? Or by pouring some water on it? In order to be properly immersed, one must go completely under the water's surface, just like a ship that is sunk goes completely under. There is little debate on this, at least honest debate!
What then happens at the time of Christian baptism? When a repentant believer is submerged under the water and is raised back up, what does the BIBLE say about what happens? I'm glad you asked !!
What happens at the time of a repentant
believer's Immersion into Christ (Baptism)?

How can anyone consider all these Scriptures and say that baptism is not an integral part of our salvation? Some will dismiss it as a "work" and say we are saved by grace. Baptism certainly IS a WORK; but it is the working of God through His Holy Spirit as seen in the scriptures above!!
I once heard an old preacher put this way:
GRACE is the foundation of our salvation;
(if God were not gracious, we'd be in big trouble!)
FAITH is the means of our salvation;
(we come to God's grace through our faith)
BAPTISM is the time of our salvation.
(the WHEN)
NOW is the time to "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. "
